"How do you arrive at your position? Is it arbitrary on your part, or do you have precedent that supports your position?"

It's a moral belief on my part. I used the story of your neighbor getting out of the way so another could capture your house to demonstrate how I think about it. Not sure whether there is a precedent or not, but there is no way I would let him back if I could help it. I think an argument could be made for this. What precedent is there for allowing them back after the attack?

"I don't think it would have happened; the US was prepared to step into the fray."

Nice dodge. I didn't ask who would help Israel if they were about to lose. I asked your opinion about how the Arabs would have reacted had they won the war.

Thanks for the feedback btw. It is interesting to talk with one who knows the history and does not go into the blistering attacks against the "murderer" Sharon and so forth. Very refreshing.

That said, I'm gonna hit the rack. Have a good night.

ted,

re:"I don't think it would have happened; the US was prepared to step into the fray"

I don't believe that was the case in 1948. The relationship between the U.S. and Israel (and the Arab nations) didn't really change until LBJ, and RMN (especially Nixon).

A more important question is what do you think would have happened if the Arabs had destroyed Israel in 1973?
