No but this pollyanish view of capitalism ignores the fact that it exists in a mixed economy now. And in a political system which is highly influenced by socialism. Minimum wages and rent controls are but two examples. Unemployment Insurance and welfare payments etc. Food standards, health standards, environment impact studies. I don't suppose that people would be fishing in the Thames, breathing relatively clean air in the cities, if business unchecked ran the world. We don't live in a laissez faire society - nor do we live in a laissez economy in spite of Bush's platitudes about 'the market deciding'. At the merest whiff of inflation the Fed intervenes and this can effect the value of the currency
