To All, Kentucky Derby bets (Please note, these are made at Morning Line odds. If the odds change, or if certain horses are scratched, my actual bets could differ).

1. $2 across the board on Lusty Latin. I like a closer. I like a Gray. I like a horse that is peaking now. I like 30-1 odds where the show bet should cover the ticket cost. I like a Jockey who would like to make a name. Total $6.

2. $2 Exacta, Johannesburg and Came Home over Buddha, War Emblem, Medaglio d'Oro and, of course, Lusty Latin. I think Came Home is the Blue Chip of the USA and Jo-Burg lost to a good 4 year old, which is no crime for a 3 baby. Buddha and Medaglio are obvious choices for exotics. Lusty is due to #1. And I chose War Emblem over Harlan's Hope because he is the speed horse. Churchhill doesn't usually favor speed, but it could this time around. $12.

That's it, folks. A crummy $18, but I don't feel much conviction this time, except about Lusty Latin. And if he comes in, a $2 bet will be fine, thank you. Good luck to all.

Michael, yes they were fated to losing to the last team to put together 3 Worlds Series victories in a row, prior to the Yankees of late.

That's intereting that there was a philly comic strip called "Scroogie"

Yhe '69 Mets, really were destiny's team..... and what a year for NY that was with Joe Willie producing his "miracle" win in Super Bowl III at the start of the year. The Knicks had a great team in that era.... you had the First Ali-Frazer fight in March of 1971 at Madison Square Garden.

If you ever get a chance you should check out the 30th anniversary retrospective of that Fight that HBO created this past year.
