"wheel motors "

Now you're talking !

I'm thinking of building a project car next year, with regen braking, and moon-rover suspension, for a wacky off-road vehicle.

Haven't done much yet, except some research on hydraulic wheel motors for a couple hundred bucks each, and accumulator. Electric might work, but hydraulics are cheaper at the moment, with electronics operating the actuators.

re:"I am in favor of hybrid technology for all vehicles. Why not be? They'll get almost twice the mileage and have better performance than a conventional auto...Eventually drive and brake by wire and wheel motors will eliminate the need for steering columns, hydraulic brake lines and cylinders, transmissions and drive shafts. Belts will disappear."

Del,

Sounds good to me.
