A week before Lee has to sign off on the SEC filings and vouch for the financials and we get this...

"PolyMedica CEO Retires, Will Remain as Chairman Through Year-end; Samuel Shanaman Has Been Elected As Lead Director And Will Perform the CEO Function on an Interim Basis
- BusinessWire

WOBURN, Mass., Aug 5, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PolyMedica Corporation today announced that Steven J. Lee, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, has informed PolyMedica's Board of Directors of his intention to retire as CEO, effective immediately.

Lee has agreed to continue serving as Chairman through December 31, 2002, and to assist the Board in the search for his successor. Samuel L. Shanaman, a director since November 2001, has been elected to the new position of Lead Director, and will perform the CEO functions on an interim basis until a successor is named."

IMO, Lee doesn't want his name attached to anything criminal....
