From the point of view of whether AMD has enough production capacity it seems important. WRT cost of production I think both AMD and Intel are heading to a position where their production capacity exceeds demand so pricing will depend on how much product is offered to a market with limited elasticity relative to CPU price. They could give CPUs away but the systems would only be slightly (10-20%) less expensive.

wbmw, I agree completely unless AMD can move that core to the embedded market or something. Thr T'Bred will not be in Prescott's League if Prescott comes in at 3+ Ghz and 1MB L2 Cache and 533+Mhz FSB

p.s. It would make an awesome upgrade path to everyone who bought Socket-A thunderbirds though.
