Great post Wayne...

I am a novice in Thoroughbred land...

would you stay away from all the horses coming out of Santa Anita? Which one or two would you consider if you got the right price?

Lastly, which would be your top two or three choices based on current morning line odds?

Thanks for your input.

Best regards, J.T.

My 5/4/02 Picks:

"Came Home" has had a good training period since the SA Derby. He did not have a clean training period, due to health reasons, between the San Rafael & SA Derby -- so it will be interesting to see how the strong workouts play out.

I am betting "War Emblem" to win.

I agree that the only "quality" horse that he beat was "Repent" -- who came up injured in the Illinois Derby. I like the high-Beyer # of 11. Obvious weaknesses: speed doesn't typically win the Derby, lack of quality wins. Strengths: Baffert has been training since a private purchase after the Illinois Derby & a quality new-jock in Espinoza.

I am betting Medaglia d'Oro on top for the trifecta.
Trifecta Ticket:
For 1st on the trifecta ticket:
9. Medaglia d'Oro for 1st
For 2nd & 3rd on the trifecta ticket:
1. Johannesburg
3. Perfect Drift
5. War Emblem
8. Essence of Dubai
11. Prive Emblem
14. Harlan's Holiday
15. Came Home
16. Saarland

I like the Saarland breeding & Velazqez will be tough. Pat Day will be riding Blue Burner.
