"Dream on, Fantasy Man. "

So he is your fantasy man? That's why you spar with him so much, so he pays attention to you...

Dear Monica:

How can you be so wrong and fail to admit it?
Re: "You think AMD has customers willing to buy the long-delayed SOI stuff from AMD - that has no 64-bit OS or applications to run on it?"

Wrong! Linux is running in 64 bit mode and it is a real OS!
Wrong! Linux includes many applications that run in 64 bit mode.
Wrong! All x86 versions of MS Windows and any x86 OS will run at high speed on Athlon XP64 and Opteron. And they will run faster than IA-32 CPUs from Intel. IA-64 CPUs like Itanium(2) can't do this. And that makes AXP64 highly desirable.

"Three strikes and Yer Out!"

Re: "SAMPLING means making a few parts and giving them to customers.
Limited production means turning on the manufacturing lines and selling parts to customers that are willing to buy them."

What do you call in production and not selling them? Answer, "Unsaleable", Itanium's current status.

RE: "...AMD will have 3400 baloneyhurtz Clawhammer..."

Intel has the real baloneyhurtz. Their P4 runs fast but, its feet keep slipping so 2.4GHz is more like 1.6GHz and that is giving them the benefit of the doubt. No way will even a 3GHZ@133QDR will get close to a 3GHZ Tbird. IT might get past a 2GHz one though. Problem for Intel is that all 3 Athlon lines (XP, XP32 (Tbred) and XP64 (CH)) and both Opteron lines (CHDP and SH) will have CPUs capable of obtaining more than 2GHz Tbird in overall performance. The Hammer (AXP64, Opteron SCSC and Opteron DCSC) based ones will exceed that 3GHz Tbird and perhaps a 4GHZ one.

And then, Intel "Hurtz" badly for their "Baloney".

Pete

Re: Dan3 - Since they're sampling SOI Athlon XP-64s, they're in limited production on SOI

No, Dan3, NO !

Ok, tell me how AMD is delivering samples of SOI chips to customers without having an SOI process to produce them.
