John, amazing that Intel has the technology to really pull ahead, but it looks like they are still limited by market demand.

I'm hoping the market gets better in the second half, but I'm only seeing weak signs of a recovery at this point. There are some positive signs out there (trends reversing, etc.) and a lot of anecdotal stuff, but the Tech sector isn't going to be the first to recover. The Tech sector led the downward spiral this time, so I don't expect it to lead out. If the turnaround has started, Tech probably won't begin to recover until Q4.

As to Intel's execution... it's been excellent. Intel is now, what, 800MHz ahead of AMD in raw frequency? No "branding scheme" at this point can hide AMD's inability to keep up with the K7 core...

wbmw,

I don't know. Second quarter demand flat with first isn't all that bad historically, is it?

And I'm holding out hope for the start of a corporate upgrade before the years is out, or early next year if we don't see corporate profit improvement. The PC's bought pre-Y2K are fast approaching their three year depreciation. And post-Y2K sales were even stronger (for the first 6 months, anyway). We could sure use a new consumer app to suck up those extra MHz for home PC's.

Just a little help from the general economy would go along way.

John

What are they saying about the new benchmarks over on the AMD thread? Denial..., and wait 'till we get to <insert the current delayed AMD product>?
