Moral decay, certainly! But that has absolutely nothing to do with the War on Drugs. It's due to:

1) Idiots running school systems who insist on teaching condom use, but fight tooth and nail against displaying the Ten Commandments.

2) A major political party which attacks the nation's ideals and founding fathers in defense of a president so corrupt he gets disbarred in his home state and DC.

3) Lawyers who get glorified for eating away at the law in order win lottery-like judgements from private enterprise.

4) Fabrication of votes in federal elections by a party that then tries to cover its tracks by claiming it's all a "civil rights" issue.

5) A political party and president who embrace Larry Flynt as a freedom fighter.

6) A federal Ponzi scheme that allows politicians to run for office by promising the feeble that they'll keep the smoke blowing and the mirrors properly tilted.

There are few drug dealers who can drag themselves down that low...

Would you rather see a smack dealer move in next door, or Bill Clinton?

Everybody hesitates, and that's indicative of the problem...

But the war on drugs puts Americans (usually black or low income people) in jails by the millions (except for the children of congressman, who seem to finagle community service instead of jail time), and finances organized crime, much as alcohol prohibition financed Al Capone and the cosa nostra. The real scourge of society, imo, is alcohol, it beats all drugs in terms of lives lost (car accidents, liver disease, etc.), marriages broken, sickness, work days lost, the AIDs virus is eight times more prevalent in alcoholics than in the general population and bankruptcies. I believe, we should educate people on the proper use of intoxicants rather than throw them in jail. My brother-in-law is from Holland, where marijuana is semi-legal (he has never use it). He says they educate the kids about the use of drugs and as result Holland has few drug related deaths and almost zero drug related .

"Moral decay is a legitimate concern in this country and the last 40 years have not been good in this regard"

I agree here. This is the main reason that I was so disgusted with Clinton, and with half of America's willingness to condone his behavior through their support. I was hopeful the tide would turn somewhat with President Bush, but with examples like the Supreme Court supporting computer generated child pornography I'm not so sure.
