I can figure out my PC. Don't be condescending...I probably have more experience with PCs than you realize.
The problem isn't whether I can figure out my PC. It's why can't Dell make a PC that works. The fact that you don't know what my problem is has nothing to do with the fact that Dell has had mine worked over and can't figure it out on their own.
I've had CPUs on my laptop replaced 3 times now. They burn out at an incredibly rapid rate. Apparently, that is common on Dell laptops (the IP guy informed me).
They may have gained share every year...but you can't go up forever. They have issues they haven't addressed. You may not have seen them yet, but they are there.
Also, there is question as to how much they've really made....you did read about their put strategy, didn't you? We'll find out how much has to be written off or restated at some point. Looks like they thought you could go up forever.....

<How can you not like Dell the stock, >

Wall Street becomes entranced with certain stocks -- over the past few years DELL & EMC have been 2 of them -- their (WS) feelings have let them overlook key issues, time and again --

EMC is having its come-uppance now.

DELL having gone through stock drops over the past 2 years (as evidenced by their 1.2bil put/call loss) will eventually: (1) find their model less rewarding, and (2) find their myopic gain-mkt-share focus limiting. DELL has to expand beyond its current model - once it does (1) it will be out of its element, and (2) will have to deal with integration aspects re: the companies it buys, and (3) ALL its comfortability & WS enomorance will be gone, and (4) it will be 2-3+ years behind HPQ.

HPQ is merging/evolving itself into a new-profitable-appropriate-technology IT Solutions Provider - a model for SUCCESS - and one that's NOT far from paying off BIGtime.

Elroy - I own both DELL and CPQ - now HPQ... and as anyone who can read a chart could tell, DELL the stock has been pretty weak over the last few years - if I wasn't selling calls, I would have done better in a savings account. Not that CPQ was any great shakes either in that time.

DELL is a well managed company but they sure don't look like an exciting stock.
