The Rise mP6 was 5 years in the making before it came out. You can imagine all you want, but hopeless delays do not a superior product make.

The problem is that Matrox was also virtually three years out of the performance market... And with Nvidia's six months development cycles Matrox doesn't have the luxury to wait another three years before coming out with a successor. My guess is that their new card will temporarily give them the performance crown in some areas (although at a very high cost) but Nvidia will quickly regain it with GeForce 5, slated for late summer/fall.
