What if placement of a U.S. corps causes Saddam to overrun Kuiait, and the corps, again, this time with an understanding from the Saudis.

If we have an army corps there we would also have a lot of air assets. That and a small contribution from Kuwaiti forces should mean that Saddam would not be able to overrun Kuwait. It would not perhaps be a big enough force to take Baghdad but it would be big enough for defense.
