Yes, we do have fireflies.

Closer to the southern end of our continent, in South Texas, we had a branch of the firefly family that we called lightning bugs. We also had lady bugs (beetles). And one of the more memorable names in my school days was a popular girl named June Bug.

Speaking of beetles, did you know that the "inspiration" for the fab four's name, the Beatles, came from Buddy Holly's musical group, the Crickets?

Those firefly-filled evenings are probably the thing I miss most about back East.

Or course, sitting on the porch in the evening watching the whales pass up the Strait and the seals sunning on fhe rock and the sea otters sporting in the cove sort of makes up for it.
