They realized, and they conceded in 1960 and 1976. In 2000, the problem was that the Democrat totalitarians left them ahead by a few votes (incompetent to the end!), and they were trapped. People like Nixon and Ford had enough sense of public duty not to damage democracy by dragging it through the Gore Mud.

But the jig is up now. Gore had his idiots make too big a deal out of it. They believed their own Carvilles and Begalas that this election was too critical to let go, even if they didn't have the votes. The movement for "participation at any cost" is now dead and buried, and the small, struggling beginnings of bringing integrity back to vote counting have begun. It took the left decades to bastardize our election process. It will take decades to set it right again. But-as with the left's own destruction-the day is coming...
