-you can't make a simple equation Lenin=Marx=Left.

Yes you can, Tek. The problem is you and John, etc, don't like that logic.

they are pointing out (correctly) that violent extremist movements have a lot in common with each other in ways that are not characterized easily by a simple left/right split.

The Authors make it quite obvious that this movement came right out of Marxism.

as much a fascist movement as anything else

You and John, etc, see "fascist" as right, I see it at left. But, we have been down this road on this thread before, and nobody changed their mind as a result of the discussion.

The main point I see out of the article, and I linked the main points from it together in a earlier post, is that the authors have proven that these terrorists are a bunch of leftist thugs disguised behind a Muslim appearance. The Government they set up in Iran and Afghanistan is and was a totalitarian regime, that, when stripped of the Religious front, is no different than any other collectivist "Peoples State" of the last century.

Georges Sorel

Good point. Not only are there flame throwers on the left and on the right. Also, some move back and forth between left and right. And, in addition, it's a different matter to be a flame thrower against a totalitarian regime (termed used loosely) (how does one understand "terrorist" activities against the Nazi regime in Germany, for instance) and a liberal democracy.

Just as totalitarianism is no respecter of left-right distinctions so resort to "terror" is not.

John (said with too much certainty, but you get the point)
