Mega PDA deal backs wrong horse

May 10, 2002 (ITNews.com.au - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Telstra Corporation has
decided against distributing Compaq iPaq personal digital assistants (PDA) among
its workforce. Telstra workers will receive 5,000 Hewlett-Packard Joranda 568s
instead. John Gowland, HP's Joranda product manager, said that Telstra opted for
Joranda because of the iPaq's non-removable/replaceable battery and the
inability of the PDA to write to ROM. According to Gowland, the deal, worth
$5.43 million, is the biggest pocket personal computer rollout in the Asia
Pacific region.
