CH imagine someone who beat and molested his children when they where young. By the children's standards he might be cruel and sadistic. I would submit that the children would be right despite the fact that the adult might be more experienced and have a better understanding of the world then the children.

I am not saying that my standards are infallible, just that I have nothing else to work with. I can't assume that God is good and wise and benevolent. I believe that he is, but I am not certain as a matter of faith or logic.

If you where visited by the creator of the universe, and where sure that the creator was actually talking to you, and he gave you a stoppered vial that he said contained a disease that would cause every person on the earth to die a horrible agonizing death. And he asked you to release this disease on to the earth not because he had some wise plan to make things better as a result of this but because it would be a lot of fun to watch everyone writhe in pain. Would you release the disease from the vial? If the answer is no then it means that you would judge his ideas, commands, or requests by your standards. Perhaps your answer is yes, but mine would be no. I don't think God would ever ask something like this of me, but if he did it would be evidence to me that he is not benevolent.

Do you accept it as possible that the universe has been created by someone who may not be benevolent? I'm not asking if you actually believe this, or believe the chance is anything more then very low, just if you consider the possibility at all.
