Wall Street To Be Shutdown?, asks Insana of Spitzer

In the June 2000, issue of "Money Magazine", the New York Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer, is interviewed by Ron Insana. Having earlier stating publicly that "We have to address a problem that could erode investors' confidence", Spitzer proceeds to paint a dire picture of the problem.

At one point, Insana askes if the firms engaging in these Investment Banking conflicts will be indicted and claims that "Merrill wasn't even the most aggressive investment bank". When Spitzer basically agrees and alludes to a possible expanding investigation with the "SEC, Congress and self-regulatory organizations", Insana asks the following:

"It sounds like there's a risk you'll shut down Wall Street?"

Spitzer: No, We're far from that...

But just the fact that the question was asked is bound to shake the very soul of Wall Street and make them realize that they better start to clean up their act. The public is not going to take it much longer.
