<This is where we disagree Nadine. The United States would never let that happen. >

Hahahaha!!!

You have to be kidding. Last time the Jews were being exterminated, Britain was under attack and Europe was being over-run, the USA hid behind the ocean until Japan attacked the USA Navy at Pearl Harbour. If Hitler hadn't bitten off more than he could chew and Japan had buckled to the embargoes instead of fighting back to maintain their expanding co-prosperity sphere [which wasn't very prosperous for those in Nanking or anywhere else for that matter], then there could have been a truce and peace [other than for the missing Jews who used to live in Europe].

If it is in USA interests to defend Israel, Israel will be defended whether they like it or not. If it is not in USA interests, the USA will do nothing. Oil is becoming irrelevant as a strategic issue. It's just another commodity. Iraq cut off their oil and nobody noticed.

Saudi oil could stop and it would barely ding the world's economy. Prices would rise a bit, SUVs would be left at home in favour of the small car more often. Coal, gas and insulation would get a boost. The world would move on.

Oil is a rapidly dwindling part of the USA economy. In the 1970s iy was a large part. As Sheik Yamani said, the oil age won't end for a lack of oil, just as the stone age didn't end for a lack of stones [or words to that effect].

Israel would be wise to maintain strong defences until the barbarians at the gates get themselves something useful to do.

This is where we disagree Nadine. The United States would never let that happen.

And you know. And I know it.

The last time Israel was in serious danger, in 1973, the US did nothing at all until Israel had thrown back the attack and was winning. Then it stepped in. Besides, what could the US do to stop it besides diplomatic protests? The US has influence on Israel, not the Arabs. The US could only do something to stop it if it kept several divisions stationed in the Middle East.
