As I recall, Bogie's final words basically said the world is crazy and screwed up, and the concerns of individuals don't add up to a hill of beans.

That sums up the financial markets, too. Crusades may be gratifying but wherever large money is involved (finance, politics, sports, entertainment, religion, etc.) the interests with the most will skew the game in their favor.

It's human nature. Nothing will change it much.
