So are you suggesting that we might be in a real recovery rather than a false one?

I don't know myself. But I will tell you this: Corporate profits might be going up but you know why? Layoffs!! The best way to rise the bottom line is to get rid of a few thousand workers. Bingo. Profits! Contrary investor raised this point a couple of issues ago.

Layoffs here in the UK everyday. Companies pulling the plug for one reason or another. My company has told be not to expect that nice fat bonus this year.....

I'm buying gold.....

Maybe I'm losing my mind...been a PGB (Perma Gold Bug) too long....

Hi Iso,
two things on that post catch my eye:

1-At that point, at least the political constraints on rate increases will have been lifted. And Greenspan's legacy as the keeper of the price-stability flame might be in danger of burning up.
So this melds with your recent view on the gold / commodities ?

2-especially in light of the politically-charged 6% unemployment rate.
This relates (for me) to the whole 'productivity issue' reigning in inflation. To me it's not that simple or maybe I should take the simplistic view and use this example. I used to be a manager at a small software house with 6 or 7 programmers reporting to me. Now I work on my own, self-employed. My billing rate hasn't increased too much, say 15% in 10 years on my own BUT I now do the work of those 6 or 7 programmers (do to technological advances) for a slightly inflated rate, sounds good, sounds productive. I sometimes wonder where are those other programmers ? McDonalds ? My former employer lost most of his accounts to me and one other fellow (who used to be my boss :o) and is now gone from the scene. Maybe the work available has increased 6 or 7 fold in that time but I don't see it. Anyway I'm keeping my eye on employment figures for this 'recovery'. Too many folks confuse 'recovery' with a return to the gogo years of the 90's. all FWIW and MHO or maybe I'm all wet :o)

regards
Kastel

What are you all watching for POG support? 307 is a biggie, IMHO. Would like other views.
