I wish I knew what the end of this consumption / debt binge really was -- rates will go higher at some point or negative rates will fail to stimulate more buying.

Inflationary bust used to be the old way, but if we calculate that inflation away ... I guess the people will keep buying until ... what?

I thought I saw the end to it when terms kept stretching -- first 6 months no interest, then 1 year, then 18 months (I purchased a washer on one of these deals). Recently I have seen deals for no interest until 2005 ... I guess as long as the debt can be serviced.
