A quick check in Yahoo shows that throughout its existence QCOM generated net retained earnings of $428 million as of March 28. Divide that by 770 million shares and you come up with around 60 cents a share. Since QCOM's book value is around $7 a share, the bulk of it has come from issuing stock

If you count the stock that was issued, and divide by market price at the time it was issued, you'll see that this $7 is what is *left*.

So far, none of the more optimistic have addressed this issue satisfactorily. Most people look at the $2 billion pile in the corner. Forget to ask "where did that come from"? Forget to ask "was there any more where that came from"? Forget to ask "where did that go"?

It's remarkably easy to make $1.00 if you can spend $2.00 to do so.

Of course, this is all in the past, and the story going forward is completely different now.

Um... oops... ah... er

John.

Oh! OK. I thought you were referring to that part of retained earnings due to the tax benefit gained upon option exercise.
