Bill,

The debt is the accumulated sum of deficits and surpluses over time.

The only way to eliminate the debt is to pay it off. Having inherited a $250 billion surplus, GWB had the best opportunity in three decades to pay it off, but instead chose to increase it.

Increasing spending and simultaneously cutting taxes is a recipe for disaster.
