If this is even partly true, it would certainly at least partially explain why the reaction of May 8th can take place, where some stocks went up 25-30% in one day<<<<

stocks regularly lose that and more in one day that disapoint,

the big jump on may 8th was due to huge compression from a market that had been going straight down for 3 weeks in a row without more than a day pause, on the 6th and 7th, you saw dell, intc take out feb support, as well as the sox, and a huge swell of teowawki sentiment, bears were becoming way to cocky and shorting up the wazoo. The csco news was a breath of fresh air for a market on intensive care and in systoly, the csco news turned the sentiment on a dime and gave the crowd the hope that the morgue was still something we only visit when we watch CSI or the x-files -gg-

here are some of my quirkie sentiment observations prior to the bounce

i don't think you can attribute market action like this to manipulation, because nobody really knows how the market will react to news, like you say the csco news wasn't all that hot, it just wasn't all that bad.
