My impression is that a lot of the talent Dell has used to decimate IBM's PC business came straight from IBM.

I think Tucson was tape but the story-line would be the same simply by substituting Storage Tech for EMC. The DASD business has been heavily concentrated in San Jose.
The storage area is such a key component of the Specified Operating Environment that I am not sure that this IBM/Hitachi deal is good strategically but we'll see I guess. I still think that EMC is the ultimate winner just as Dell fed off the HP/CPQ circus.
