NORWOOD, Mass. -- Analog Devices Inc. today reported a 5% sequential increase in revenues to $413 million in the company's fiscal second quarter, ended May 4, compared to $393 million in the prior three-month period. Analog Devices' sales were 31% lower than $601 million in the fiscal second quarter last year.

The Norwood chip maker's net income totaled $14.4 million vs. $24.7 million, including a $27 million nonrecurring charge for transfer of production from older 4-inch wafer fabs to 6- and 8-inch fabs.

"Stronger bookings throughout the second quarter led to revenues increasing 5% sequentially to $413 million," said Jerald G. Fishman, president and CEO. "Revenues from analog and DSP [digital signal processing] products both grew 5% sequentially, with analog products accounting for 77% of the quarter's total revenues."

Analog Devices' orders in the just-ended quarter grew in every region of the world, "with the strongest growth occurring in Southeast Asia and Japan," Fishman said. "Overall, orders requested by customers for delivery within the next 13 weeks rose 40% sequentially, while orders requested for delivery within the next 26 weeks increased by more than 50% sequentially."

The company said its book-to-bill ratio increased to over 1.2 in the fiscal second quarter.
