Preakness 2002

track muddy for the first and second races
track moved to good for the third and fourth
turf for the fifth called yielding
track FAST for the sixth
turf for the seventh yielding
track fast for the eighth
and time for me to wager .....

rain has stopped and is not supposed to come back today
and,
the rail appears to be slightly tiring, but the lane coming down the stretch from the two to the six looks to be the best
and
speed is holding up very well as in all dirt routes so far today, the winner is *(at worst) on the board in the final turn .....

track times are definitely in the fast area and the track super, before NOON, "I'm promising a fast track for the BIG race at 6:09pm today"....

surely looks as if I need to get him to let me in on the winner, too ...ggggg

here is what I'm doing ...
and here are the odds at 2:02pm today -

Below are the updated odds:

U S S Tinosa -- 12-1
Magic Weisner -- 25-1
Straight Gin -- 25-1
Crimson Hero -- 16-1
Medaglia d'Oro -- 7-2
Harlan's Holiday -- 4-1
Easyfromthegitgo -- 25-1
War Emblem -- 5-2
Table Limit -- 25-1
Booklet -- 6-1
Menacing Dennis -- 35-1
Proud Citizen -- 9-1
Equality -- 30-1

the TWO best horses are WE and MdO
but
I feel the odds are a tad low for me to attempt to make a large profit
unless
I venture into that terrible wagering
(for me)
of the tri ..<gasp>
*(there goes my dinero out the window)

on top
WE and MdO

place
WE, MdO and Easyfromthegitgo

show
WE, MdO, Easyfromthegitgo, and Straight Gin, USSTinosa, Magic Wiesner, and Table Limit

this is a $20 throwawayyourmoneyyoudummyyou

I feel the WE and MdO exacta box will pay in the area of $24-$30 for a $4box, so I'll leave that one alone.

Ralph W.: Thanks! I just got back from the simulcast. I had the trifecta. I put the 1 & 2 in as long shots. The 2 @ 47:1 made a bold thrust at the end. Espinoza did a masterful job of winning this race.

The Washington Post had a fascinating article, from Andy Beyer, and how he created the Beyer numbers but did not use them for the Derby. He bet the 5 horse today.
