I re-read my last post, and realized I should not have included the reference to Poet.

It was only a parenthetical example (a recent and celebrated one) of extra aliases. She was not on my mind in that post, and in fact is probably one of the least apt examples of aliases that differ from the real person.

Another analogy in the persona vein is the superhero. The great appeal of Spiderman or Batman to the average noodnick is the exhilarating fantasy of putting on the cape and tights and transforming into the powerful, all-conquering hero. (Same vein, clearly, as Mitty).

The Internet chat line is a great facilitator for living out that dream. I suspect that is why so many SI male aliases come across as tough-as-nails, take-no-prisoners, swaggering tough guys. You don't even have to spend a dime on a cape.

Healthy or not? Harmless or worrisome?

I guess it remains to be seen ....
