surely are a lot of folks in the press casting aspersions at this dual winner of the first two portions of the Triple Crown....

first, after the KD win -----
it was "too slow a pace" ---- "a mere crawl to a stolen race" ---- "nobody challenged him"

now, after the P ----
it is "he was slowing down a lot at the end" ----- "several horses closing strongly on him" ---- "he got 'another' perfect trip"

here is what I see/saw ----

KD ....
he just got in front in a sweeping run ....
and ran "just as hard as needed" into the stretch
and then out ran EVERYONE, both in speed AND in position *(except for EoD waaaaaay back there) down the lane to the wire

P ....
he hoisted his @ss up there close to the front in a very rapid manner, ran nicely, with some urging, to three pretty fast first three calls ..... 22.87, 46.10, and 1:10.60
and that Dennis horse was a "pure" rabbit who ran 3/4 ONLY ....
The final time for the 1 3/16 miles over a drying-out track labelled fast was 1:56.36.

now --
the ballyhoo is "too slow" ...

well, I saw the first eight races on my little computer, before I left for Dallas ....
and
danged if there were not a whole bunch of scratches , and I mean a WHOLE bunch for this track to be close to being considered fast ...
it looked to ME, what us old hardboots called "cuppy" as the dickens ..
and that is ALWAYS a verrrrrrry tiring type of surface upon which to run.

the main drawback I can see to his Triple Crown success is that, indeed, this cuppy surface took a lot out of him and there is such a short recoup time.......

I hope he wins the Belmont
