As we knew it. "" Gold shares strong on JSE Sapa May 20 2002 at 09:51PM Gold shares were pushed firmly up on Monday as investors bought in anticipation of a rise in the gold price, currently stable at US312.6, as a result of a weaker Dow Jones and a less healthy dollar, Tradek reported. As the Dow Jones lost 106 points, the gold index rose an impressive 3.8 percent or 124 points. Outside of gold shares however, the JSE Securities Exchange remained relatively flat with the all share index up 77 points. Other major indices remained relatively stable. BoE Bank issued interim results on Monday for the six months to end March 2002. Their earnings were down four percent to R551-million with earnings per share creeping marginally higher to 25.2 cents from 25.1 cents as a result of share buy backs. With the results out, analysts now appear to be supporting the Nedcor bid for the small bank, which was upped to 354 cents a share last week. The share price remained stable on the news of the results, backed by Nedcorpis offer. Financial services group M-Cubed also issued results on Monday, announcing significant improvements on the forecast figures. Revenue was up 160 percent to R272.3-million and operating profit increased a whopping 191 percent to R64-million. The results are largely the result of acquisitions and the price was only marginally affected, rising slightly up at 51 cents. The Rand maintained the gains it made last week and shortly before 6pm was trading about R10,05 to the US dollar, R14.61 to the British pound and R9.22 to the euro. Platinum is trading at US546 and Brent Crude oil at US26.35. - Sapa "" Hey TWILCO what did DROOY do anyways?
