3:46PM Oracle rumor (ORCL) 9.23 -0.33: Hearing Street talk out of the user's conference in Toronto that checks indicate ORCL may come in below consensus for the May qtr; tone from customers still cautious, and near-term sales opportunities still tilting towards upgrades rather than new licenses; while our source believes that the May qtr will be challenging (which has been widely documented), the current price of $9 seems to fully discount results.

12:41PM FBI comments on potential for FBI suicide bombers : CNN reports that the FBI considers walk-in suicide bombers "inevitable" in the United States.

3:27PM Teradyne (TER) 30.71 -0.46: The stocks of back-end (test, assembly, & packaging) semi equip suppliers has been hit hard in recent weeks due likely to disappointing order data from SEMI as well as comments from KLIC, A, and others; shares of TER have traded down 22% in sympathy. USB Piper Jaffray suggests that shares' recent weakness presents an excellent buying opportunity; recent checks indicate that TER is outperforming the semi test industry due to continued strong activity with TER's Catalyst platform as well as strong demand for the J750. Firm believes that TER's Connection Systems business (about 30% of sales) is on track to post high single digit seq. growth in the June qtr and reiterates their Outperform rating and $40 price target.

2:04PM Cabot Micro (CCMP) 50.37 -2.11: CIBC defends CCMP after shares fall 7% from Thurs's. close on a report that TXN has notified CCMP that DuPont/Air Products will displace its oxide slurry business, and that TXN has experienced a fungus growth problem with tungsten slurry at one fab. After due diligence, firm is confident that speculations of the product being responsible for a fungus growth are unfounded, and that there has been no mkt share loss at TXN. CIBC concludes that if a device manufacturer experiences a fungus growth problem, it is a technical problem stemming from the tool receiving inadequate maintenance during down-time, rather than a reaction caused by use of CCMP's slurries; rates stock a Strong Buy with a $85 price target.

10:34AM SpeedFam-IPEC (SFAM) 4.42 +0.27: Last week, SpeedFam announced that it had received a multiple-unit Momentum order from a major Taiwanese foundry. Based on this news, Needham & Co is upgrading to BUY from Hold rating with price target of $6. Firm notes that it had recently initiated on SFAM with a Hold rating due to concerns that company's weak cash position and high debt level posed several risks. However, with the receipt of production orders from a major foundry, firm believes there exists an increased likelihood that demand for Momentum might accelerate sufficiently for the company to support its ongoing needs through operating cash flow within a few quarters... SFAM currently trading up 6.5%.
