LP, it sounds like you are arguing just to argue. Either that or you are a pretty scary guy.

I find that many people like you tend to see almost everything in extremes, instead of shades of gray. You also draw conclusiong that are biased and way out there. You said that I was "advocating the annulment of personal responsibility in favor of increased central political power." Is that what what I am doing, fighting for increased governmental power?

You have got to be kidding! You sound like an attorney for those who are advocating less regulation so they can manipulate more. You are pretty naive if you think personal responsibility is enough to prevent criminals from committing criminal acts. Quite the contrary, I don't think many, except you apparently, are against more regulation if it makes sense and brings a bit more fairness to the Markets.

Do you think the majority is against Enron officials being punished or those MM's who were involved in a massive price fixing a couple years back, and the resultant regulations that have been put in place by the NASD?

Do you think that many investors are upset at Eliot Spitzer for going after analysts and the resultant regs that are likley going to be placed on analysts?

Do you think it is a bad idea to help standardize the way accounting is presented to investors? To eliminate the "Pro Forma" loopholes that hide how a company is really peforming?

Do you believe, as you seem to be implying, that there is no one in our government that is capable of passing sound regulations or enforcing them?

Your following statement is pretty scary stuff and dangerous stereotypical thought that I hear from time to time. So you think that many individual investors are fools
who will fritter away their money anyway, so regulations to protect them are worthless? That's sad and shows your true colors.

you said:
"I also believe both (a) that you can't legislate ethics, and that (b) even when you try to alleviate their responsibility (a perilous prospect for everyone), fools will find a way to lose their money - so it's not only unjust but pointless - in the securities industry and in every aspect of American life, to make every individual, community, and business subsidize the stupidity, naivete, and/or misfortune of one subset of the population."
