To be fair people probably wouldn't be talking about the real victims here much anyway. This is, afterall, a fairly escapist place. The people who come to the coffee shop come for a variety of reasons but most don't come here for social justice or to cure society of its ills. Some do, I've seen a few people try to do that, and I am glad for it, but most don't.

Speaking hypothetically, if the alleged harasser had quite a bit of personal information, identity, location, etc., about the intended victim, alias or not, the situation is a bit different IMO. Moreover if, the alleged harasser had possession of very personal and private information about the victim's life and physical/mental condition which he could and does use to terrorize the victim, that also makes a different case. The word scumball comes to mind. Finally, imagine a situation where the effect of the alleged harassment is explained to the alleged stalker ad nauseum and he/she just keeps on acting out in the same manner. Do you really think that mental abuse can not have the same negative effects that a physical assault might? Does the alleged victim really need to sport some broken bones and a fat lip before we call it an injury or to use your words, "genuine pain and suffering"? I think not. In fact, I know this is not the case.

As I said before, its probably best you and I desist from further discussions in the matter. It is all too clear that you will not change my mind nor will I change yours. I respect your opinions and contributions to these threads much in the same manner as I view Neocon's. However, even the generally like minded sometimes disagree. This is one of those occasions.....
