I think of the situation with the House of Saud the way I do the situation we had with the Shah: there are worse things out there than Saudi royalty.......

While I also wish the United States wouldn't be dependent upon foreign oil, the fact of the matter is, that it is. The United States cannot even get the portion of ANWR in the North Slope of Alaska opened up (or for for that matter new sections of costal waters along the Pacific and Gulf).

If you bother to look at the countries with the largest oil reserves, the Saudis would be considered moderate. Iran, Iraq and Libya have roughly 24% of the World's petroleum reserves. Do you like them more than the Saudis? Roughly 70% of the World's proven oil reserves are in either Arab or Iranian hands. Maybe they're not our friends, but it would be stupid to declare them an enemy.
