DWB,

Great post. I'm amazed why so many want to fight/bad mouth new technology. Five years ago, how many here would have thought we'd all be spending so much time posting and reading each others comments on a SI thread such as this? World Cup will show the world that CDMA HDR is ready for prime time. The "killer app" is CDMA.

Best,

Golf

>>>Being able to locate yourself when you are lost (or better yet, find your kids)<<<

Can do already. Call them.

>>>or pay your bill at a restaurant by using your phone (one less thing to carry)<<<

Credit cards are easier to carry. And why punch in a bunch of numbers on a cell phone you can't read because you lost your glasses...when you can just give your credit card to the waitress?

>>>or to burn some time while waiting for your tires to get changed (no more soap operas on TV)<<<

Maybe you could TALK to someone?

>>>or in a doctor's office (bad/outdated magazines)<<<

Bring a book?

>>>or while riding a bus in to work (any email?)<<<

Read one of the free papers laying around?

>>>are benefits above and beyond what is currently available that people will be willing to pay for<<<

Ah, HA! That's it. WILLING TO PAY FOR. Unlike most of the techies here, a lot of people are not going to give a sheet. Just one more unnecessary consumer thing to do without...which most people will.

Wanting to waste time using a cell phone at a restaurant instead of flipping a credit card to the waitress...gezzzz!

You better come up with better things than this.

Never been to Pennsylvania, but my family knew Ned Ludd. Read some Edward Abbey some day. Don't be afraid, monkeywrenching is good for the soul.
