Ted
re: No, I don't believe it. And the reason is first off, it would be very difficult for them to defeat Israel. Israel is a superpower, at least in the Mideast. Her army and airforce are some the best in the world.
pays to read once in while, you know. The destruction of Israel was "official" goal of plo fatah up until very recently. It is still a goal of many other militants groups within plo as well as non-plo. It is likely to be still an unwritten goal of arafat.
You believing it always lead you to the wrong conclusions....

Ted, <how much you want to bet that if the Palestinians had their own country and a chance to get a head that the Hamas would go away real fast?>

A good chunk of money. If peace in the Middle East is that easy to achieve, I'd be more than happy to pay up and admit I was wrong.

Like I said before, I'm all for Palestinian independence. I just don't think that's going to make Hamas go away, but neither is what Sharon is doing right now. And the third alternative, the extreme right-wing solution, would mean WWIII.

<No, I don't believe it.>

It might be easier to believe when you realize that the terrorists aren't being rational or reasonable in their methods and their doctrine. Fanatics don't burden themselves with such "weakness."

Besides, how much you want to bet that if the Palestinians had their own country and a chance to get a head that the Hamas would go away real fast?

Ted,

There is not much evidence to support this statement. This is as much a clash of material differences as it is a clash of culture. When the material clash is no longer justified the culture clash will remain. Right now it is hard to tell which one motivates the attacks...evidence suggests that both do.
