There is no company more anxious than Microsoft to see the PC market re-energized.

How many hundreds of millions of desktops will have to be replaced as soon as 32-bits won't cut it any more?

How many hundreds of millions of desktops are perfectly adequate otherwise?

I really think that Microsoft will push hard to have a 64-bit version of windows ready for the launch of hammer this fall. Don't forget that, like 32-bit windows on 386, Microsoft can let most of "Windows 64 for X86" stay 32-bit for years - that's the beauty of AMD's strategy, and the insanity of Intel's Itanic, which requires a total re-write of every dll and driver.
