Cool - I bookmarked that thread.

Having investments in more than one country can get pretty confusing. I'm sure the average tax preparer in a place like Troy NY doesn't have much clue.

What I did here was send my return to a service called "Tax Pack Express". This seems to be a unit of the Post Office. For $A20 they entered your form into a computer. They then came back with any blatant mistakes you made. Like claiming a margin interest deduction on foreign stocks in excess of dividends claimed (that law has been changed this year so now you can deduct foreign interest paid against general income). They also claimed you would get a refund in 2 weeks. I figured an audit was highly unlikely for those returns going through that service :)

It worked perfectly.
