It's boring and usually doesn't change anyones mind. The simple fact is we had basically two choices for President last fall. George Bush and Al Gore. Neither was my original first choice. But, such is our political system. After doing the research during the election, and listening to literally hundreds of people who knew both candidates, the selection was easy. I honestly came to believe Al Gore had some kind of a mental problem. He didn't seem capable of discerning reality from fiction. And his mental awareness of what was going on around him flickered like a flashlight in need of batteries. The past records of Al Gore, or McCain, or any of the other potential candidates was full of these "shocking" claims you seem to be making about Bush. McCain had the Keating Five scandal, and Gore was a chronic silver spooned liar. His claim that his mother took dog medication was the one that really undid his candidacy imo. Especially when you consider he inherited all of his wealth and could easily have purchased a health plan for his mother which covered her prescription drug needs. What a tightwaded buffoon...thinking Mike the mechanic with three kids should be taxed to pay for his mothers prescription drugs. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is what's the point? If you're intention is to assert that everything Bush says is a lie because of some shady deal he made 10 years ago, then everyone in Washington is a liar. If true, why support one person and not another? Yet, in reading your posts both here and on the Enron thread a common theme is expressed. "Conservatives are bad, Liberals are not as bad. Big business is bad, but government is not as bad". I simply disagree with this assumption and challenge those who agree with you to articulate a reason to support such a mental model. Everyone who runs a multibillion dollar company and makes lots of money in the process is not evil. And someone who makes a lot of money using their connections to bring in investors to buy a ball-team has not defrauded the citizens. Wouldn't it be nice if the world worked in this sort of open and shut black and white universe. But it doesn't. The world is full of gray zones in which we're left to come to our own conclusion about a persons character from. In the case of Bush, I believe his family is decent, principled, kind, and politically astute. I believe George W. has inherited that family moral compass. They have accomplished what no family has accomplished in a long time in American politics. A father and son have been elected to be President. They didn't get there by having a pretty smile, or a liberal press swooning over them like some rock stars. They got there by surrounding themselves with people who were smart, and by building consensus with people of all kinds of different viewpoints. That kind of leadership may scare those who desire our nation to take a radical liberal path. But for most americans, it's a path they're willing to support.
