I agree with you on this.

If the subs number does in fact hit 170 million by year end, there will be a lot more than 81 million handsets sold this year.

Conversely, if there are only 81 million handsets sold this year, there will be a lot less than 170 million subs by year end.

Re: Forecast for new subs and handsets. QUALCOMM emphasized that the number of people upgrading their existing equipment is being underestimated. Thus, you could have a large number of new handsets with a smaller than anticipated number of new subscribers. A lot will depend on how fast the implementation of CDMA goes in China and India. I think the forecasts that QUALCOMM provided (based on estimates from other groups in the industry) is reasonable and achievable, even in the current state of international unrest.
