as pointed out by Steve post, these cuts are more drastic as in past. And the spin will be "it was expected" and ignoring just how sharp and drastic these cuts are, and at top end.

I know that these price cuts are a regular thing so not necessarily a bad sign. But...

1) Wasn't there a recent pump from a major analyst on the grounds that he thought this time round there would be no price cuts due to firming demand?
2) Price cuts in the past haven't normally been this radical and the biggest cuts used to be on the low end chips. This time the fastest desktop chip was cut by 29% and the fastest laptop chip by 45%.
3) Recent comments indicated that laptops were where the demand is. This action from Intel doesn't back that up - at least as far as the P4 goes.

Probably some earnings lowering will result from these higher than expected cuts. But first we will probably see a load of "The cuts were expected" reports. >>
