ted, don't try to run the CD from your corrupted Windows systems, just boot off of it. It will give you an option to run an anti-virus check. You might have to enable CDROM as a bootable device in your BIOS -- make sure it is BEFORE IDE 0.

Almost all anti-virus programs come with bootable CD's and Norton Systemworks and/or Antivirus is no exception.

On second read, it seems like you have it under control, but I would still run NAV by booting directly from the CD.

RE:"How can a CD get corrupted ????"

If it's a "pressed" commercial CD I see no way that it can. I've yet to see a virus that will get a CD-RW to change a burned CD either...

Dear Ted:

For what it is worth, you could always boot a different OS or another copy of Windows. Then mount the corrupted disk (if you use an OS like Linux), delete the file (this is relatively easy since it is not being used), sync the disks to make sure the deletion is written to the disk, dismount the disk and you are ready to boot up the normal way.

I keep on a small partition a backup copy of a previous Windows version as well as a Linux one. They only take a few GB, but the pain they prevent more than makes up for the "lost" space. Lilo allows me to boot them without much trouble.
