"we are responsible for the consequent slaughter"

This is wrong.
The party line is that the US is responsible for areas that it has NOT been involved in (like Africa), and is further responsible for areas that it HAS been involved in.

Do you not see a slight bit of irony here?

The fact is, the rest of the planet uses the US as a patsy, for claims on the American treasury, American military, and lives, for whatever their purposes are, whether they are warlords or opportunists of another stripe.

"We cannot extricate from promises relied upon for the survival of a nation"

If Israel cannot exist, it cannot. The Arab nations need Israel's advanced population and can't destroy that. The military involvement in this feud has created a meatgrinder that needs to be turned off, so that whatever diplomatic solution can be made. We DO NOT have the answer to their problem, only they can find that. Meanwhile our involvement serves only to extend the carnage. Without our help Israel would have to negotiate, whether they continue to exist as a political entity, or not.

"We have it in our power to reduce the threat"

Certainly, in addition to the military solution, by pulling out of these arguments that are not ours, and that we have no answer to, would add to our security. Not doing that eliminates the major expressed power to reduce the threat, according to these terrorists.
