rkal. The 70% is not new. Doubling has been used by QCOM mgt too in the past. When the systems were actually installed, they set them up a certain way and seem to get 70%

I don't have a link to Qualcomm saying 70% but 70%-80% is the best I've ever seen in any of the articles or presentations. IMHO, when they say "doubling" or "2x capacity", it's the same as saying 1x speed is 153 kbps.

Qualcomm usually says things like......

up to twice the voice capacity of second-generation IS-95A/B chipsets,

Here's Verizon on 1X trials in Nov 2001.

Stone also said that the voice capacity gain was closer 1.6 to 1.7 times greater than IS95, not double, as they expected.

And this from WR Hambrecht in Nov 2001.

2) significantly increased voice capacity, though probably not quite 2x existing 2G CDMA; in fact, the company has experienced 1.7x existing voice capacity in laboratory tests, and SK Telecom (South Korea) has reported 1.4x in commercial performance
