what exactly does falderol mean?

So, you made me look it up. I always though it meant hoopla. It doesn't. Go figure.

According to the OED, falderol, or folderol, or fal de rol, is "1. as a meaningless refrain in songs. 2. a gewgar, trifle; a flimsy thing." First usage dates back to 1701; second to c. 1820,

Found another nice word while looking (one of the charms of the OED is serendipity)-- faldistory. Sounds nice if you put the accent on the second syllable. Means the seat or throne of a bishop within the chancel. Maybe we could adapt it here as the seat of one of authority on a thread -- "kholt occupies the faldistory on this thread."
