EMC Sees Single-Digit Sequential Revenue Growth

NEW YORK (Reuters) - EMC Corp.(NYSE:EMC - News), the world's largest maker of data storage systems, on Thursday called for single-digit sequential revenue growth in the second quarter, dashing any lingering hopes that the market might pull out of its gloomy state sooner rather than later.

"IT budgets remain closely scrutinized and customers continue to exert conservative capital spending strategies," Bill Teuber, EMC's chief financial officer, said in reference to information technology spending by corporations.

Teuber, who gave the outlook during an analyst meeting in New York, said EMC is comfortable with Wall Street's current consensus profit estimates for the second quarter. Analysts have Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC reporting a loss of 2 cents a share.

Teuber added that he expects EMC's software revenues to account for 30 percent of the company's overall revenues by the second half of 2004.
