Lucent Technologies Introduces Updated and Enhanced Version of Its Market-Leading IP Management Software

MURRAY HILL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2002--Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - News) today announced new enhancements to its market-leading Internet protocol (IP) management software solution, offering significantly increased productivity, greater scaleability and improved software security to its 900 enterprise, wireline, wireless and service provider customers.

VitalQIP(tm) 6.0, a multi-vendor, multi-platform software solution, includes a new file generation architecture that improves network security and overall network performance. File generation is a unique functionality that enables system administrators to quickly update and reconfigure domain name servers (DNS) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) servers. The IP management software solution improves overall reconfiguration time by more than 60 percent. In addition to improving file generation times, Lucent's upgraded IP management software solution significantly reduces the number of hours spent manually managing an IP infrastructure. It also offers a quicker way to integrate IP address assignment and server-configuration tasks, speeding day-to-day management of IP infrastructure and allowing system administrators to work on more strategic projects.

"The enhancements made to Lucent's VitalQIP 6.0 are indications of the expanding role IP address management is beginning to play in network administration, security and service creation," said Paul Bugala, senior analyst for IDC. "VitalQIP 6.0 is an important piece of Lucent's Navis (tm) iOperations network management portfolio and its release is a significant development in the growing IP address management market."

New simplified network-management software features in the solution allow administrators to pick multiple zones in the network, such as IP domains, and specify a set of configurations that will be applied to all specified zones without having to open each domain individually. This time-saving element is unique to the Lucent software solution.

"With the assistance and feedback provided by our customers, Lucent continues to introduce enhanced and innovative software solutions," said Madan Kumar, vice president of the Network Operations Software Group in Lucent Technologies. "In addition to the 75 percent of the Fortune 100 companies who use our Vital products, our growing base of new customers have the ability to upgrade their current IP management software solution with the industry's highest performing and most secure network management software solution available." VitalQIP 6.0 now fully supports the Microsoft Windows(tm) 2000 DHCP and the Microsoft Active Directory solution, which is a database solution to store user names.

The new configuration options in the software solution, including data compression, encryption and authentication, are also enhanced elements that give IP networks increased security.
