I didn't read Betty Mac Donald's books until I was an adult, but I love all of them. She had quite the eye for the absurd. The Plague and I was an amazing work.

They were great, and I also often read the unabridged version of favorites. One reason, by the way, that I got interested in Indian religious literature was a travel book my grandparents had, by Lowell Thomas, that provided intriguing accounts of fakirs and yogis and whatnot. Also, there was a yoga show on tv I used to watch. Influences.....
